This Morning's Dermot O'Leary forced to issue apology after show backlash

This Morning's Dermot O'Leary has apologised for a comment made on Tuesday's show that left viewers upset. Before kicking off Wednesday's (27 May) This Morning's View feature, he issued an apology.

"Quickly before we start, yesterday there was a reference on the show to nut allergies in The Morning View. Apologies from us," he said.

"We just want to reiterate that we take those very seriously, especially dangerous ones on the show. So following on from stories this week about a family not being able to fly because of an allergy issue we are going to be doing a special segment on it next week as well."

The apology came after viewers expressed their outrage on social media over media commentator Nick Ferrari's attitude while discussing the story of BBC weather presenter Georgie Palmer and her family being ordered off a plane after she revealed her daughter's peanut allergy.

The vegan, gluten, dairy, wheat, nut, soya and egg free brand @creativenature shared a clip to their 48.1k followers on Instagram of the LBC Radio presenter saying: "If you don't like peanuts then don't get on the plane because I do and I can't eat them because someone at the back of the plane is going to drop dead or something."

Host Josie Gibson, who recently shared a health update after an ongoing medical issue, laughed at his remarks while Dermot held a sheet of paper over his face to hide his giggles.

"THIS MORNING, THIS IS SIMPLY NOT GOOD ENOUGH! We are absolutely appalled by this recent segment on @thismorning today. "Don't get on the plane either, If you don't like peanuts, because I do and I can't eat them because someone at the back of the plane is going to drop dead if I have a peanut, I don't know why." Instead of the presenters standing up and showcasing this comment was wrong they simply just sat there and laughed."

"This Morning, do you think this is good enough? You are continuing to allow people to see allergies as a joke, someone dying on an airline due to someone eating nuts on board could be someone's reality. That is absolutely in no way a joke to be laughed at on national tv. Use this platform to educate and bring awareness to this issue instead of making it a laughing matter."

This comes after Dermot recently celebrated his 51st birthday, and the revelation of his age amazed viewers, with them rushing to social media to express their disbelief that he scarcely looks a day over 40.

One viewer wrote: "I thought Dermot was about 40/41! I want whatever he's on #ThisMorning!"

Another chimed in their disbelief: "Dermot looks about 40 #thismorning, while another chimed in "No way he's 51 omg he looks amazing," while another viewer faced their own reality, writing: "Dermot is 51 now. I remember his early days on Big Brother - God I feel old."

Dermot's celebrity pals, including Amanda Holden, Simon Cowell and even Kylie Minogue, also sent in hearty birthday wishes via a video.
