From Cosmopolitan

If you want to get your witch on in 2020, you're going to need to know about these special moon calendar events. Yasmin Boland, author of the best-selling 'Moonology Diary 2020' explains what lunar eclipses and events are going to affect your life in the coming year.

Note that there are four eclipses in 2020 which are visible in the UK – see here for more details if you're an eclipse hunter!

These are the 2020 dates and moon events to look out for...

January 10: Time to put the dramas behind you

January 10 2020 brings a magical-sounding Penumbral Lunar Eclipse, visible in parts of the UK.

If you were hoping for a quiet start to the year, you might not be in luck. This full moon eclipse is bound to bring up lots of very big emotions. If you're still dealing with stuff from last year, this is the time to write it all down and then burn what you've written. Howl at the moon and declare that 2019 is over and 2020 starts here. It's in the sign of Cancer, so a great time to put family dramas behind us.

March 9: Turn your shine back on

March 9 2020 heralds the first Super Full Moon of 2020.

A Super Full Moon is a Full Moon that closely coincides with when the Moon is at its closest point to Earth in her monthly orbit. They are not really astrological and have no special significance or meaning. But they are cool to look at as the Moon appears up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter in the skies! This one takes place in the sign of Leo, so if you've been a tad wallflower-y lately, take it as your time to turn your shine back on! And if you have been too proud, stop it!

April 8: Dump all your relationship baggage

April 8 2020 brings a second Super Full Moon.

This time around, the Super Full Moon is in the relationship sign of Libra (note that the Full Moon occurs when the Sun and Moon are on opposite sides of the zodiac. So in this case, the Sun is in Aries and the Moon is in the opposite sign of Libra). Use this Super Moon to dump all your relationship baggage. Forgive, release and move on. I'll be running a Facebook Live event for this Full Moon if you want to know more.

June 5: Be forgiving

June 5 2020 brings a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse, visible in parts of the UK.

A lunar eclipse means an eclipse at the time of the Full Moon. Full moons are always emotionally charged, so a Full Moon eclipse is that plus plus. If you find yourself starting to get a bit discombobulated or even acting a bit out of order around this time; breathe! There are tons of emotions to process. Forgive yourself fo whatever you think you have done and do the same for anyone who has hurt you. Forgiving doesn't mean what they did was ok, it just means you're choosing to release it and move on!

July 5: Each star sign needs to chill out about something...

July 5 - exactly one month later – another Penumbral Lunar Eclipse, visible in parts of the UK.

This one is in the sign of Capricorn where we have had – and continue to have – some of the most intense astrology imaginable! Here’s a quick rundown to where you need to chill out and release.

Aries: at work.

Taurus: the small stuff.

Gemini: sex and money.

Cancer: in relationships.

Leo: your every day life.

Virgo: romance, creativity and kids.

Libra: at home and with family.

Scorpio: the way you express yourself and re negative thoughts.

Sagittarius: money.

Capricorn: your whole life!

Aquarius: your fears.

Pisces: friendships.

August 19: Declare your intentions

August 19 2020 brings a Black Moon - it's the third New Moon in a season with four New Moons.

This one echoes the March 9 Super Moon. That was a Full Moon – now six months later we have the New Moon in Leo and it's a Black Moon. Again, this has no special significance BUT it sounds cool (cue endless Facebook memes!) and the New Moon in Leo is always special because it's a time when we can declare our intentions to go forth into the world with more confidence, and THAT is life-changing!

October 16: Time to write your wish list

October 16 2020 brings a Super New Moon.

Super Full Moons are bigger and brighter, but did you know that you can't actually see the New Moon for various science-y reasons? You can't. That's a bit why the New Moon has traditionally be used by witches and wizards to send their intentions and wishes out in to the Universe. Its when the veil between the worlds is said to be thinnest. If you don't make some magic at this Full Moon, even if it's just writing your New Moon Wish List, you're missing out!

October 31: Declutter your life

October 31 2020 brings a once-in-a-Blue-Moon Blue Moon (the second Full Moon in single calendar month).

In other words, October is a month when we need to have a really good think about what is no longer viable, working for us, or useful. It's a great month to declutter your life literally and metaphorically – the releasing energy is strong! Remember, when you let go of what no longer sparks joy, you open the way for something that does!

November 15: List your professional goals

November 15 2020 brings another Super New Moon.

This Super New Moon is an awesome one to make wishes related to work under. That's because it's making a harmonious alignment to the planet of hard work and long-term success, Saturn. So even though it's the end of the year and you might have your mind more on the upcoming holidays and festivities, take a moment on November 15 to list your professional goals for 2021.

November 30: Change the way you're thinking

November 30 2020 brings a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse, visible in parts of the UK.

It's the last Full Moon eclipse of the year and it's taking place in the sign of Gemini. Gemini is the sign associated with the mind, with thinking and talking and expression of all kinds. Without Gemini, there would be no talking and no exchange of ideas – or much, much less. The Full Moon is always about moving on. Eclipses are intense. Put all this together and you have a super-powered chance to change the way you're thinking now, as the year ends. Look at where you're upsetting yourself with your thoughts and look for the best-feeling thought you can find instead. This will make a huge difference in your life!
