Gardener's World's Monty Don has shared a moving photo on what would have been his late dog Nigel's 13th Birthday.

Nigel passed away last year to an outpouring of condolences from fans and Gardener's World viewers. Now, a year on, Monty has showed one of the ways he is keeping his dear friend's memory alive; and it couldn't be more fitting.

Monty shared a photo of a beautifully well shaped topiary of Nigel happily bounding in the garden, captioning the snap: "Topiary Nigel wading through a wash of flower. He would have been 13 today."

Surrounded by forget me nots, the perfect flower, fans were quick to leave their memories of Nigel and messages of love in the comments.

Monty also posted the snap on Twitter alongside a photo of Nigel, this time with the caption:"Nigel was born 13 years ago today- topiary Nigel celebrating by swimming in a sea of flowers"

It was in May of 2020 that Monty shared the news of the beloved dog's passing, telling fans and followers: "I am very sorry to announce that Nigel has died. To the end he was happy, healthy and his usual calm, lovely self.

"But he was suddenly taken ill and he slipped quietly away with no pain or suffering and is now buried in the garden with lots of tennis balls. Rest now old friend. See you in the sweet bye and bye."

The pup often appeared on gardening show and was adored by viewers who were greatly saddened by his passing last summer and Monty's loss.

It's lovely to see how Nigel lives on, not just in topiary form, but in the hearts of all who loved him, on and off screen.
