A mother and daughter are squaring off over a missed driving practice session.

The 56-year-old mother shared on Reddit’s popular "Am I The A------?" forum that her 17-year-old daughter wanted to go out “practice driving” since she had her “learner's permit,” and they had planned a date to do so, until a timing issue derailed the plans.

The woman noted that she is a “single working mom” who cleans houses for a living — which she explained is a “physically demanding” job that makes her “exhausted” when she comes home from work most days. She said that once she’s able to “sit down” after getting home from work, she often does “not want to get back up.”

“I warned [my daughter] very clearly upfront ... be ready to walk out the door when I get home. Because if I walk in the house and sit down? We are not going,” she wrote.

However, she said her daughter “has an incredibly bad habit” of making her wait, as she is “on the spectrum” and “struggles with time management.” However, she noted that she refuses “to let her use that as an excuse,” and has suggested getting ready earlier or setting alarms.

This timing issue struck again on the day that they were scheduled to go driving. The mother said that despite working “an especially hard day,” she was still willing to take her out to go practice driving and sent her daughter text reminders when she was 45 minutes away and 5 minutes away.

“Here is where it went to hell. Apparently, she decided to get on the treadmill for 45 minutes. Lost track of time,” the mother shared. “She wanted to shower before we went. I told her no. Be ready when I get there. She got in the shower anyway.”

The mother said she walked into the house while the teen was still showering and sat down as she waited for her to get out and change. When the teen was finally ready to go, the mother said, “I refused.”

“Once my a-- sat down ... I wasn't getting back up. I was crystal clear about that,” she explained. She added that her daughter thought she was being “unreasonable,” while she thought her daughter was being “disrespectful of others,” before opening up the forum to comments.

Several people online agreed with her, noting that she was “clear” with her “boundaries” and “expectations” and that her daughter failed to meet them.

One person said that the daughter “chose to ignore” the expectations the woman laid out and had to pay the consequences for that.

Another commented, “You were crystal clear with your expectations. You are not being mean. You are being a good parent. Your actions now will help her become a responsible adult.”

One Redditor also suggested that the teen try again: “Tomorrow is a new day with a new opportunity to be ready to go when you get home.”
