Model Lauren Wasser lost her leg back in 2012 after contracting toxic shock syndrome (TSS) caused by a tampon.

Yet despite the odds, the 29-year-old continued to pursue her modelling career and has tirelessly campaigned to educate young girls on the dangers of the life-threatening condition.

But sadly, the model has now revealed she faces losing her left leg too due to further complications.

Lauren’s story

Back in 2012, Wasser started to develop flu-like symptoms after using a tampon. The 29-year-old then suffered a heart attack which left her on life support.

The model later contracted gangrene on both legs which led to below-the-knee amputation of the right leg and toe amputations on the left foot.

Wasser told InStyle that she fought to save her left leg but it had “an open ulcer, no heel and no toes. And over the years, my body has produced a lot of calcium, which causes my bones to grow on that foot.”

She continued: “In a few months, I’m inevitably going to have my other leg amputated. There’s nothing I can do about it.”

But the model has used her own personal experience of toxic shock syndrome to warn others of the dangers of using tampons.

And the 29-year-old has pledged to continue campaigning for a greater understanding of the life-threatening condition.
