Miuccia Prada Has A Miu Miu Invitation For You
Miuccia Prada reinvented fashion’s relationship with art through her groundbreaking curatorial and architectural projects, and these commissions continue to frame her collections and centre her vision in a wider creative place to this day.
Primarily, these artistic alignments find themselves backdropping the biannual Miu Miu show with various collaborators over the years applying their practice to the show space, in an array of mediums, from installation to moving image to murals.
Next, Mrs Prada is turning her eye to Art Basel Paris, with Miu Miu rolling out a stellar line-up of events as the fair’s official public-programme partner. And, so, we're all invited.
Open from October 16, Tales & Tellers will offer a range of short films and live conversations at the Palais d’Iéna show space where its fashion shows are held twice a year, as well as nine sites of interest across the city, with works by contemporary artists and filmmakers of note. Directors involved include Ava DuVernay, Miranda July, Chloë Sevigny and Dakota Fanning, while works from artists Meriem Bennani, Shuang Li, Geumhyung Jeong, Sophia Al-Maria, Cécile B. Evans, Goshka Macuga and Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg will also be shown.
The central tenet of the artistic works and programme will be that exact same inspiration and point of interest that informs Miu Miu's overall vision: a fascination with the lives of women. Tales and Tellers is a project that 'draws together a myriad of narratives and storytelling exploring ever-transforming ideas of femininity.'
This echoes the primary inspiration for its AW24 collection, too. It was inspired by the wardrobe of a lifetime with different eras examined and then playing out in archetypes of dress — from deliberately shrunken proportions of childhood to chic gloves, brooches and handbags to imply a more grown-up, ladylike stage of life and style. So an invitation to take in Tales and Tellers offers up the perfect opportunity to live out another chapter of life in these pieces in perfect Mrs P-approved alignment. We'll see you in Paris.
