Miley Cyrus has paid tribute to her Hannah Montana character, in honour of the Disney Channel original series' 15th anniversary.

On Wednesday, the musician shared a heartfelt letter addressed to Montana on Twitter, detailing the impact playing the 'teen pop sensation' has had on her life.

The chart-topping singer played the eponymous role on the TV show, portraying a regular teenage girl living a double life as a pop star. The show aired from 2006 to 2011, and catapulted the then teenage Cyrus into the spotlight and launched her current music career.

In the letter, the 28-year-old reminisced on the highs and lows she experienced while filming the show, including the death of her grandfather, getting her period for the first time and falling in love.

'We had an equal exchange in which you provided a superlative amount of fame in return for the anonymity I could gift to you, but a lot has changed since then,' Cyrus wrote in the handwritten note on 'Montana'-themed paper.

'You were like a rocket that flew me to the moon [and] never brought me back down.'

The Midnight Sun artist also noted about the joys of working with her father, Billy Ray Cyrus, and fellow co-stars Mitchel Musso, Emily Osment and Jason Earles, declaring that the cast 'became my family'.

Elsewhere in the letter, Cyrus wrote that the lyrics from 'Wherever I Go', the final song she sung as Montana, still ring true.

'I am indebted not only to you Hannah but to any [and] everyone who believed in me from the beginning, You have all my loyalty [and] deepest appreciation until the end,' she stated.

In true TV magic style, the official twitter page of Cyrus' alter-ego ― which was updated this week with a new bio and profile photo ― responded to the letter with: 'Nice to hear from you, @MileyCyrus. It’s only been a decade.'

The anniversary was also marked by celebrity fans of the show, Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas.

The couple posted videos to their Instagram Stories on Wednesday of a huge floral arrangement in the shape of a star, with the show's logo appearing on the top point of the shape. The flowers, which were gifted by Cyrus to the couple, were also arranged to match the colours of the show's iconic logo — bright purple, yellow and pink.
