We can't remember the last time a hair look at an inauguration ceremony inspired this much praise, but leave it to style icon and former First Lady Michelle Obama to do just that. Obama stepped out at Joe Biden's inauguration ceremony wearing a plum-hued outfit by Black American designer Sergio Hudson, but it was her bouncy, flawless hair that dominated the chatter on Twitter. In fact, 'laid' started trending simply because of Obama's hair. That's how much power she holds.

As soon as Obama stepped out of the car, group chats everywhere exploded with talk of Obama's hairstyle. Shiny, glossy, with a bounce that could be seen all over the world, Obama's curls no doubt inspired millions of women to run to their bathrooms and turn on their curling irons. Hairstylist Yene Damtew gets all the credit for this look. The choice of a side-part was key here, since her front layers were curled perfectly to swoop and frame her face. Obama's subtle caramel highlights also added dimension to the style, making each curl look shiny and defined.

The weather at the Capitol was cold and windy, but Obama's blowout met the challenge without looking like it was stiff from hairspray.

Many remarked that they hadn't seen hair so bouncy in years, and it inspired them to bring volume back to their hairstyles.

At the inauguration four years ago, Obama wore her hair in a sleek, chic slicked-back chignon. Some wondered if the change in hairstyles was a political statement. You can see the contrast below.

Damtew shared on Instagram that it was 'an honor to be a part of Mrs. Obama’s team on this historic day.' Her social media comments are soon to be flooded with women wanting to know which hairspray was used and how exactly one can achieve that level of curl perfection on their own.

Obama paired her curls with a plum-hued coat, a matching turtleneck, and wide-leg trousers, all cinched with a statement gold belt. The designer, Sergio Hudson, has previously worked with Obama, as well as Rihanna and Beyoncé. Vice President Kamala Harris is also wearing Sergio Hudson today, per CNN, along with fellow Black designer Christopher John Rogers.
