Whether it's a slow jog through the park with a best friend as you catch-up on each other's recent Tinder dates, or a sweaty HIIT class with your housemates, working out with friends is the perfect way to find motivation and support, unload stress and tone up those arms. Sure, you'd much rather be sitting on the couch with a curry on your lap, catching up on Love Island, but it's always worth it.

And it sounds like we're not the only ones who enjoy working out with our friends, as former first lady Michelle Obama just revealed she hosted boot camp weekends for her girlfriends at the White House and will continue to do so, despite leaving office in January.

Yesterday, the lawyer posted several photographs of herself and her friends on Instagram doing squats, lunges, planks and sit-ups on the lawn outside of the White House.

'When I was at the White House, I often hosted bootcamp weekends for my close girlfriends. It didn't matter that we were all at varying fitness levels,' she revealed.

'Our bootcamp weekends were a reminder that if we want to keep taking care of others, we need to take care of ourselves first. And even though I'm no longer at the White House, I've continued this tradition and wanted to share some photos,' she added.

The image of Donald Trump looking out of his window on a Sunday morning to see Michelle Obama working out with a troop of girlfriends, reminding him that women are strong, independent and determined individuals, could possibly be the best we've imagined all week.

The former first lady continued: 'My girlfriends have been there for me through all kinds of life transitions over the years – including a pretty big one recently! – and we've done our best to stay healthy together. Whether it's a bootcamp or a walk around the neighbourhood, I hope you and your crew can find some time this summer to be healthy together.'

Michelle has long be known for her love of fitness.

In 2015, the former FLOTUS released a workout video to celebrate the fifth anniversary of her fitness-focussed 'Let's Move' campaign, encouraging the US to get fit and healthy, along with the '#GimmeFive' hashtag.

Now the Obamas are moving to Washington DC's exclusive Kalorama neighbourhood, Michelle will still be able to run her boot camp sessions in the political capital, but we're not so sure Melania Trump – who has officially moved into the White House with her son, Baron – will be joining her predecessor anytime soon.

Then again, with a track record of copying Michelle's speeches, perhaps Melania would be quite partial to imitating the former first lady's squats and tuck jumps.

Planks at the ready, gals.
