If you're one of Michelle Keegan's 5.8m followers, you'll know she's currently on an epic holiday in Mexico with husband Mark Wright. She's shared a series of pics and vids since arriving, and her latest IG Story included a look at her core of steel.
How did she get so much definition? Well, the WH cover star’s fitness journey hasn’t been a linear one. When she appeared on the front of WH three years ago, she was doing four workouts a week including the occasional two-hour long sesh, but this time last year she told us that she has adopted a more balanced approach.
‘I haven’t worked out for two weeks, but I’m not punishing myself over that,’ the actress told WH editor-in-chief Claire Sanderson.
Instead, during lockdown, she combined cycling with quick HIIT sessions that hubby Mark hosted online.
'The fact that he [Mark] would roll out of bed, go into the garden, and I could hear him setting up live outside and I thought "I’ve literally got no excuse, I’m in the bedroom",' Michelle said. 'I literally did it there and then – got my gym mat on the floor and I did half an hour HIIT in the bedroom, and it just set me up for the day and made me feel a lot more positive with what was going on at that time.'
On the topic of cycling, she added: ‘'I got into cycling, and I’ve never been into cycling in my life,' she said. 'I didn’t even know what cleats were. I really got into it, and I really, really enjoyed it.
'So hopefully, when it gets a bit warmer, I’m going to start cycling again…sometimes I used to do it on my own [without Mark] and do 14 miles.'
In an interview with Cosmopolitan UK, she also shared that weight training is part of her new and improved roster.
Diet wise, she doesn’t restrict herself, and the same goes for alcohol - as seen in her latest Story. In her caption she quipped: ‘Not lying my body is now 80% spicy margarita.’
She’s joking, obvs, but there are *some* health benefits to the occasional marg: the capsaicin in the peppers is linked to enhanced blood flow and good gut bacteria, while the lime is full of vitamin C. All that said, drinking too regularly can be dangerous for both your physical and mental health, and Mich knows it.
‘I try not to drink alcohol in the week unless I’ve got an event or I’m going to a party where everyone else is drinking,’ she told Cosmo. Or, case in point, if she’s on her holibobs. The moral of the story? Balance is best.
