Michael B. Jordan Fired The Starting Gun On Shearling Season
Shearling can be a tricky proposition when it comes to your outerwear choices. On the one hand, it's extremely cool, in the figurative sense. I still haven't entirely worked out the math behind it, but for whatever reason, it makes everyone look 123 per cent cooler than they would in a different coat. On the other hand, it is extremely warm, in the literal sense. Bust out the shearling coat on the wrong day, and you'll be sweating your face off. This does not, it should be noted, increase one's coolness.
So, you wait. You watch the calendar and the weather forecast and you plan for the day when the shearling can come out of the closet. This somewhat obsessive approach – the one I use personally – is what I assume actor Michael B. Jordan also employed before deciding to wear a grey Coach shearling coat on November 17, 2019 in New York City.
The high on the day of record: 43 degrees Fahrenheit. The low: 30. Prime shearling weather. Cold enough to call for the stuff, but not so frigid you can't leave the coat open to display, say, a chunky gold chain. Also, no snow or slush or rain to slog through, which is all the better for the implementation of limited-edition Air Jordan 1s, like the "L.A. to Chicago" colorway Michael B. Jordan is wearing with this fit.
Sadly, not every day is a shearling day. But when they arrive, you've got to take full advantage. Michael B. Jordan, who's the face of Coach menswear, by the way, has clearly internalised this axiom. Whether that's thanks to his professional relationship with a brand that makes shearling coats or simply instinct is up for debate. But either way, he looks really damn cool.
