Muay Thai fighter Mia Kang has always been outspoken about how the modeling industry lacks diversity and how important inclusion and representation are. The two-time SI Swimsuit model is featured on the front of Vogue Portugal’s September issue alongside fellow Asian models Minami Gessel, Anita Jane Pathammavong and Dominique Castelano. Kang shared a powerful snap from the edgy photoshoot alongside a moving message reflecting on her the experience with the magazine.
She donned a black latex bodysuit featuring two waist cut-outs, balconette-style cups, a corset bodice and thin straps. The 34-year-old accessorized with matching rubbery opera gloves, strappy black heels, massive hoop earrings and a deep red lip. Her long jet black locks were slicked back and she showed off her bold smolder to photographer M Watt.
“VOGUE PORTUGAL SEPT 2023. This is a career highlight for me because this is the first shoot I have ever done in America with an all Asian cast. I’ve spent my life being the token Asian on set and I’ve wondered and fantasized if there will ever be a day where I will be able to work, create and collaborate with my peers,” Kang captioned the photo she shared with her 283,000 followers on Sept. 5. “If we can be each others colleagues instead of competition for the one seat reserved for us at the table. The feelings at this shoot were warm with an incredible ease and comfort I’ve never felt at work before as I was amongst those who have shared culture and life-experiences as me in a way that most don’t understand. Here’s to having our own table, and here’s to showing the world that the strength and beauty of Asian women exists in so many more varieties than what the world wants us to look like.”
“I’m so proud to have worked and shared this moment with you, and to say that I made a new friend 🏆✨ winning,” Castelano commented.
“You are truly a super star!” Pathammavong chimed.
“well said!!! Love you angel 🤍🤍🤍🤍,” Gessel wrote.
