The New York Metropolitan Opera has assembled more than 40 stars to perform in a virtual gala.

Anna Netrebko, Jonas Kaufmann, Bryn Terfel and Renée Fleming are among the singers taking part in the At-Home Gala this weekend.

The Met’s general manager Peter Gelb and music director Yannick Nézet-Séguin will co-host from their homes in New York City and Montreal. It will take place at 6pm (BST) on April 25 and will be available to watch for free on the Met’s website until 11:30pm the following day.

There will be live performances from artists around the world, in Wales, Latvia, Sweden, South Africa, Atlanta and more, as well as a pre-recorded piece with the Met’s orchestra and chorus, conducted by Nézet-Séguin and created by individual videos from each of the musicians put together.

While the concert is free, there is an option to donate to help fundraise to protect the future of the company and support its musicians, currently out of work.

The Met Opera has also been streaming nightly performances from its archive, including Carmen, La Traviata and Eugene Onegin.
