The Met Gala, also known as the Costume Institute Gala, is one of the most star-studded events of the year.

Famous for its wild and wacky fashions, the Met Gala is an opportunity for celebrities to don theatrical looks – cue some incredible arrival moments on the red – well, pink – carpet.

The theme this year was ‘Camp’, which prompted several iconic moments from attendees. Here are some of the best:

Lady Gaga’s four different looks

The singer turned actor and Met Gala co-host wore not one but four outfits, comprised of different layers which she stripped off one by one on the carpet.

Her multiple entrances on to the pink carpet in different outfits proved to be pure theatre.

Billy Porter being carried in

As if Lady Gaga’s entrances weren’t enough the American stage performer gave her a run for her money when he arrived in a gold bodysuit complete with headdress and full makeup.

He was carried in by six topless pharaohs, on an ancient Egyptian style bed.

Jared Leto and Jared Leto’s head

The actor ensured he didn’t lose his head during the Met Gala event, bringing along a spare head with him just in case.

Ciara twerking on the red carpet

The singer twerked her way up the stairs alongside New Orleans bounce music master, Big Freedia.

Katy Perry as a chandelier

The singer arrived dressed as a Disney esque chandelier, before proceeding to serenade anyone around with an impromptu performance of her song, ‘Chandelier’.

So far, so meta.

Zendaya playing Cinderella

The singer arrived to impersonate Cinderella on the red carpet, complete with fairy godmother sprinkling her with fairy dust.

These weren’t the only stand-out looks from the Met Gala. Kim Kardashian turned up in a Thierry Mugler ‘wet look’ dress which fitted like a second skin, while Celine Dion wowed in a tasselled gold jumpsuit.
