When they decided to step down from their positions as senior working members of the royal family, Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, made it known that they hoped to build a life with more privacy. It's thought that the move was in part inspired by the birth of their one-year-old son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, too – and the family now live in Montecito, a small community around an hour's drive from Los Angeles.

Rather cleverly, in-keeping with this desire to give their son a more 'normal' life away from the cameras, this year the couple decided to issue a Christmas card with a smart twist: instead of using a photograph of themselves (which is commonplace among royals), they had a family portrait stylised by an artist. Meaning, Meghan, Harry and Archie's faces were somewhat obscured (however, it's still clear to see that the little one has grown up so much since he was last spotted publicly!).

But what about the inside of the card? According to The Mayhew (who received said card), a charity benefitting dogs, cats and communities, who Meghan is patron for, the message was one that'll warm even the coldest of hearts: "This year we, as a family, have made donations to several charities with you in mind," the Duchess began.

She continued on her message with, "From a local California organisation that helps families transition out of homelessness, to two of our UK patronages: one that supports animal and community welfare, and the other, a memorial fund for a cherished friend that helps to educate children and fight poverty in Uganda, we have honoured their work on behalf of all of us." How lovely is that? And how very in-keeping with the spirit of Christmas, right?

Looking for even more warm and fuzzy feels? "The original photo of the family was taken at their home earlier this month by The Duchess’s mother," a spokesperson for the Sussexes told Cosmopolitan UK. "The small Christmas tree, including the homemade ornaments and other decorations, were selected by Archie, and the tree will be replanted after the holidays."

We hope Meghan, Harry and little Archie are having a marvellously festive break together – and that (pandemic-permitting) the family will return to the UK for a visit next year.
