How to Girl Boss Menswear

Beneath my skin-tight Burberry leather jacket, a pair of elongated Tommy Hilfiger sleeves comprises my oversized Menswear sweatshirt. I adore the contrast of harmonising ‘large’ with ‘small’, and ‘baggy’ with ‘tight’ clothing.

An elegant outfit can be made to look effortlessly put together with the addition of basic Menswear pieces. My favourite wardrobe staples are Menswear sweatshirts, oversized shirts, accessories, t-shirts, jackets, pyjamas and socks.

This may come down to my 5”11 stick figure. But hey, I’m definitely not a girly-girl, I wouldn’t be seen in a pink skirt or frilly socks - but I do like to accentuate (if any) potential feminine curves of my body with a good fitting pair of skinnies or a tight fitting top. It’s finding the balance between Men’s and Womenswear that I find key to bossing the Girl Boss style.

Oh, and it’s not just women, of whom are scouring through the Menswear aisles for novelty finds: have you heard Harry Styles opts for women’s skinnies. Why? Because they’re so much tighter, and hey, the guy sure does know how to wear them!

However, vice versa, Menswear trousers will not return the favour to women - Trust me, as I learnt when I purchased a pair of skin tight Men’s suit-trousers from Topshop to only find, they just clasp around my hips (and as for the crotch area… well ahem, being a bit baggy!)

‘Mix and match’ your items of clothing with ‘baggy’ and ‘tight’ fit, or Masculine and ‘slightly revealing’ for a sexy look.

A baggy shirt with shorts is perfect for an evening date or a baggy sweatshirt with leggings and a smart pair of shoes for effortless – sophistication.

Girl Boss Tip 2

When choosing Menswear staple items, always go for basic items that you can dress up with skirts or skinnies and accessories.

Girl Boss Tip 3

For days you want to rock the dapper-suit, go for a women’s-fit to keep the look figure-hugging and sexy! Trust me there’s nothing more powerful and fierce than a woman in a suit.

To keep the emphasis upon the suit itself - go commando, like Cara Delevingne and Suki Waterhouse, or team with a simple plain tank top and classic heels.

The future for un-gendered clothing?

Unisex clothing has subtly blended within the fashion market, an opportunity that high-street giant Zara has been quick to recognise - debuting their Unisex clothing line early this year.

Kanye West too made the bold move within the fashion industry with his own Unisex clothing range and sell-out Yeezy Boost trainers.

This is a promising sign for many other brands – of adopting the un-gendered movement for the following seasons to come.

On a final note, may it be Unisex clothing, Womenswear or Menswear, make the most of all that is to offer within the fashion market, ‘Mix & Match’, create your own inimitable Girl Boss style and be a flamingo within a flock of pigeons!
