If you were planning a camping trip or wanted to buy a product related to an outdoor activity, this was the go-to shop in Watford for many years.
The Watford Observer is delighted to share pictures from the archive at Watford Museum and this week we remember Milletts.
The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “Milletts no longer has a presence in Watford, their last shop being in the Harlequin (Atria) I believe. Many people however, will remember their shop in High Street opposite the entrance to Charter Place, and next to the One Bell.
“The building dates from the 1960s and replaced the King’s Head. I'm not sure when Milletts arrived at the site, but they were here in the 1980s and probably earlier. They seemed to stock everything outdoor-related and ranging from welly boots through to tents. Today the building is occupied by Specsavers.”
