Melania and Ivanka Trump have finally agreed to abide by tradition on their travels.

The First Lady and First Daughter accompanied President Donald Trump to meet the Pope at the Vatican in Rome.

The two women were respectfully dressed in black outfits with matching veils to greet Pope Francis this morning. Melania donned a lace coat dress by Dolce & Gabbana while Ivanka went for a simple dress.

A veil – or mantilla as it is also known – is traditionally worn by women as a sign of respect when meeting the Pope.

This is an unexpected move from the Trump women considering they did not wear a headscarf once during their time in Saudi Arabia over the weekend.

Despite the Muslim custom for women to wear a hijab in public, Melania and Ivanka kept their heads scarf-free.

Melania also broke some other fashion rules in the country, wearing a trouser suit and showing her legs on numerous occasions.

In 2015, Michelle Obama caused mixed opinions by not wearing a headscarf during her time in Saudi Arabia.

Coincidentally, Donald Trump was one of the main criticisers, tweeting: “Many people are saying it was wonderful that Mrs Obama refused to wear a scarf in Saudi Arabia, but they were insulted. We have enough enemies.”

Funnily enough, the President didn’t seem to mind his wife and daughter’s indiscretions.
