The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have had a tell-all documentary series in the works at Netflix for some time now and the first three hugely anticipated episodes finally arrived on the streaming platform on Thursday (08.12.22). Since quitting royal duties in 2020, Meghan and Harry have fired damaging allegations left, right and centre at the British royal family to which Harry was born into. Two years before Meghan and Harry tied the knot in 2018, Meghan - who at that time was an actress best known for starring as Rachel Zane on legal drama suits - had come across Prince Harry on Instagram and after exchanging messages and going on one date in London she agreed to travel to Botswana to meet him. The pair spent five days together in a tent. Meghan recalled: "I remember thinking, ‘What am I doing, what if we don’t like each other and then were stuck in the middle of the bush in a tent?' I get there, this is the first time I’ve seen him in a month, and it was awkward at first."

Just two years after trying the knot, Meghan and Harry controversially decided to step back from their role in the royal family and move to Los Angles in search of peace and privacy. In the opening scenes of the documentary, Prince Harry is seen talking into his smartphone camera in March 2020 on what became known as 'Megxit Day' in the media. As he prepared to leave life as a senior royal behind, he said: "This is about duty and service and I feel as though, being part of this family, it is my duty to uncover this exploitation and bribery that happens within our media."

In 2005, aged just 20 , Prince Harry was pictured attending a fancy dress party dressed as a Nazi but used his appearance in the new documentary to apologise for his actions, describing the stunt as "probably one of the biggest mistakes" of his life. He said: "It was probably one of the biggest mistakes of my life. I felt so ashamed afterwards. All I wanted to do was make it right."

In 2019, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed son Archie before moving Stateside and have gone on to have daughter Lilibet together. But as it turns out, their firstborn now speaks with an American twang.

Once Meghan was revealed to be dating a senior member of the British royal family, her life changed overnight and she achieved worldwide fame in an instant. At the time, Meghan was starring in 'Suits' and alleged that the police in Toronto were unable to help "because of who" she was dating. She said: "If I told you I was being followed by six men, and I was in fear of my life, that would be a problem."

As Prince Harry's girlfriend, the first senior member of the family Meghan got to officially meet was none other than the late Queen Elizabeth - who died in September at the age of 96 following an historic 70-year reign - but she could not understand why she had to curtsy to Harry's grandmother. She said: "We were in the car and we were going to Royal Lodge for lunch, and he's like ''Oh, my grandmother's here, we're going to meet her after church.'' And I remember we were in the car driving up and he's like, 'You know how to curtsy, right?' And I just thought it was a joke."

Before becoming globally famous by marrying Prince Harry and becoming the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan was mostly known for her role as Rachel Zane on 'Suits'. In the doc, Harry alleged that her moderately successful career was the "biggest fear" within his family. He said: "So I think they were — they were surprised. Maybe surprised that the ginger could land such a beautiful woman. And such an intelligent woman. But the fact that I was dating an American actress was probably what clouded their judgment more than anything else at the beginning. ‘Oh, she’s an American actress, this won’t last.' "

When Meghan had her first meeting with Harry's brother Prince William and his wife Catherine - who are now known as the Prince and Princess of Wales - she was shocked at their formal demeanour. She said: "I was in ripped jeans and I was barefoot. I've always been a hugger. I didn't realise that was so jarring for Brits. I realised that the formality on the outside carried through onto the inside. The formality carries over on both sides. And that was surprising to me."

During the first three episodes of the bombshell documentary, Harry claimed that there is a "huge level" of unconscious bias within The Firm, noting the incident which saw Princess Michael of Kent wear a blackamoor-style brooch to a dinner in 2017, which Meghan - who is biracial - deemed offensive, due to it depicting a black man. He said: "In this family, sometimes you are part of the problem rather than part of the solution. There is a huge level of unconscious bias. The thing with unconscious bias, it is actually no one's fault. But once it has been pointed out, or identified within yourself you then need to make it right. "It is education. It is awareness. It is a constant work in progress for everybody, including me."

Prince Harry compared the online harassment of Meghan to that of his late mother Princess Diana, who was killed in a car crash in Paris during a paparazzi chase aged just 36. One of Harry's main motivations for stepping away from the royal family was that he was "scared of history repeating itself" in a digital age. He said: "Back in my mum's days, it was physical harassment, cameras in your face, people chasing you. Paparazzi still harass people, but the harassment exists more online now."
