The Duchess of Sussex has opened up about Prince Harry's feminist ideals during a recorded discussion with women's rights icon Gloria Steinem.

During the chat, published via MAKERS, the Duchess of Sussex and Steinem discussed how feminism isn't limited to just women, and that men can (and should) proudly consider themselves supporters of the equality movement as well.

"As I’ve gotten older I’ve been able to understand that it’s not mutually exclusive to be a feminist and be feminine. And to own that and harness your femininity and your identification as a woman in all of the different layers," said Meghan. Steinem responded, "Well, you can be a feminist and be masculine and a guy."

Meghan agreed and pointed to her husband as an example. She also mentioned that she's excited for Prince Harry to pass on his beliefs and wholehearted support for gender equality to their one-year-old son, Archie Mountbatten Windsor.

"I love that when he just came in he said, ‘You know that I’m a feminist too, right Gloria?! It’s really important to me that you know that,'" quipped Meghan, revealing Harry had previously dropped in on the discussion. "But you need that. And I look at our son and what a beautiful example that he gets to grow up with a father who is so comfortable owning that as part of his own self-identification."

"There’s no shame in being someone who advocates for fundamental human rights for everyone, which of course includes women," concluded Meghan.

Meghan's backyard chat with Steinem wasn't the only time she has acknowledged Prince Harry's feminism. On International Women's Day last year, during a surprise appearance for the Queen's Commonwealth Trust, the royal said, "I hope that men are part of the conversation [around feminism]. My husband certainly is!"
