Last night, Meghan Markle made her first public appearance since the revealing documentary she filmed with Prince Harry on their tour of Africa was aired. The Duchess attended the opening ceremony for the One Young World Summit at the Royal Albert Hall in London on Tuesday evening (22 October).

The documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey, covered the topic of the Sussexes' media scrutiny in depth - as filming coincided with the news breaking that Meghan would be suing the Mail on Sunday for the unsolicited publication of a private letter from her father.

During one particular interview shown in the programme, Meghan appeared particularly emotional as she talked about the toll all the unwarranted criticism had taken on her mental health.

"Any woman, especially when they're pregnant... you're really vulnerable and so that was made really challenging," Meghan told interviewer Tom Bradby, adding: "Thank you for asking, because not many people have asked if I'm okay."

"When people are saying things that are just untrue, and they're being told they're untrue but they're allowed to still say them, I don't know anybody in the world that would feel like that's okay," she later said.

With Meghan and Harry both having come across as particularly bruised in the documentary, the world was eager to see them both back out in public. And that moment came last night for Meghan, at the start of the One Young World Summit. The Duchess of Sussex attended the opening ceremony wearing a purple midi dress by Babaton - a recycled outfit from her pregnancy - and she looked beautiful.

While Meghan didn't speak at last night's event - she is anticipated to at the Summit itself - body language expert Judi James analysed the Duchess' behaviour and noticed some things that suggest she's still feeling very vulnerable.

The way Meghan Markle interacted with her hands, James told the Express, may have reflected the Duchess' vulnerability. "She seems to be holding one hand or both high to her body and again this trait can suggest the desire to create a partial barrier," notes the expert. "When she walks and shakes hands she’s holding her left hand quite high."

Meghan's hairstyle may also be a clue that she's feeling delicate, suggested James. The style the Duchess chose for last night, which left her hair falling over her face, "created the option of 'curtains' that provided a 'cut-off' to partially hide behind," the body language expert pointed out.

Judi James did add, however, that Meghan's "smile looks as wide and as positive as always and her eye expression suggests pleasure and excitement at the event."

In perhaps a very wise move, Meghan and Harry have planned to take six weeks off at the end of the year, splitting their time between the UK and the US. They will be "taking some much needed family time", bringing baby Archie to America for the first time, where they'll celebrate Thanksgiving with Meghan's mum, Doria Ragland. And hopefully it'll be just the break the family needs.
