Meghan Markle's book includes a reference to new baby Lili

·3-min read

Meghan Markle's first children's book, The Bench, has just been released and it's full of sweet references to the Sussex family, including Harry, Archie and even brand new baby Lili.

The story is about the bond between a father and son, seen through a mother's eyes, and although the illustrations feature a range of different dads with their children, some bear a striking resemblance to Meghan's own family.

Meghan dedicated the book to “the man and the boy who make my heart go pump-pump”, the first touching reference to the Duke of Sussex and their two-year-old son, Archie Harrison.

The Bench’s final illustration shows a red-haired man helping a young boy feed chickens while a dark-haired woman stands in a garden cradling a baby – this scene seems to closely mirror the Sussex family's appearance and lifestyle and looks like a reference to new baby Lilibet 'Lili' Diana.

We know the family love feeding their chickens, something well documented in Meghan and Harry's Oprah documentary, and there's more detail in the illustration that appears to mirror their life.

As well as the chickens, the illustration by bestselling artist Christian Robinson features two dogs that resemble Meghan and Harry's pets - a black Labrador named Pula and a beagle named Guy.

Meghan has explained that the book started off as a personal poem for Harry, which tallies up with the family references throughout.

“The Bench started as a poem I wrote for my husband on Father’s Day, the month after Archie was born,” Meghan said in a statement. “That poem became this story. Christian layered in beautiful and ethereal watercolour illustrations that capture the warmth, joy, and comfort of the relationship between fathers and sons from all walks of life; this representation was particularly important to me, and Christian and I worked closely to depict this special bond through an inclusive lens. My hope is that The Bench resonates with every family, no matter the makeup, as much as it does with mine.”

In other extremely cute Sussex family news, it seems like Archie is loving big brother duties.

A source is reported to have spoken to Us Weekly about how Archie has already seemlessly slipped into the role of big bro. "They are already back home in Montecito with their baby girl," the anonymous person said. "Archie absolutely adores his little sister and gives her lots of kisses. He’s held her with the help of his parents."

The insider also added that Archie is "such a kind, loving child and there aren’t any jealousy issues."

Too cute. Who knows? Maybe Meghan will pen another kid's book all about sibling love based on her son and daughter. We'll let her get the presumably sleepless nights with a newborn out of the way first though...
