Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have made it clear from the first day they announced their engagement that they wanted Princess Diana to have a big role on their wedding day on 19 May.

And, with two of the diamonds in Meghan’s ring being from Diana’s personal collection of jewellery, plus the roses in her bouquet being a nod to Diana's favourite blooms, it is also widely believed that the Suits star will choose her ‘something borrowed’ from Diana.

Katie Nicholl, a leading royal expert, told the Express: ’Harry made sure Diana wasn’t forgotten on the day of his engagement.

‘Two of the diamonds in Meghan’s ring are from Diana’s personal collection. So I think there’s every possibility that Meghan might wear a piece from Diana’s jewellery collection on her wedding day.’

It’s thought Meghan may accessorise her wedding dress with Diana’s family tiara – the Spencer tiara – which hasn’t been worn in public since the mother-of-two's death in 1997.

Diana wore the beautiful headpiece on her wedding day to Prince Charles in 1981, which is a family heirloom that was worn by all of Diana’s sisters at their weddings.

The tiara - which was made by Garrads in the 1930s – has an elaborate design of stylised flowers decorated with diamonds in silver settings.

However, others think it’s unlikely the star will choose to wear the iconic headpiece.

Jewellery writer Ella Kay told Town & Country: ‘I think it’s unlikely because Meghan is marrying into the Windsor family, not the Spencer family, so if she borrows a tiara, I think it will reflect her new royal status.’

Of course, Markle could choose to wear one of Diana’s other tiaras or a piece of jewellery such as her South-Sea pearl earrings, or a diamond and sapphire suite from the Sultan of Oman (which would also fulfil Markle’s need to find ‘something blue’ on her wedding day).

In addition to wearing one of Diana’s pieces of jewellery, Meghan and her fiancé’s choice of flowers for their big day also have a special significance relating to Prince Harry’s late mother.

According to reports, Markle will pay tribute to the ‘People’s Princess’ with her wedding bouquet which will be made up of white garden roses to symbolise the royal.

White garden roses will also feature in the church floral arrangement, and sit alongside peonies (Markle’s favourite flower) and foxgloves, according to the BBC.

When it comes to white roses, it’s widely believed they symbolise purity, virtue, innocence and sincerity – adjectives undoubtedly synonymous with Princess Diana.
