Earlier today, Meghan Markle released a behind-the-scenes video of her trip to the Robert Clack Upper School in Dagenham on Friday.

The Duchess of Sussex, 38, has now posted to Instagram a series of unseen black and white photos from the occasion to mark International Women’s Day, in what is believed to be her final solo engagement as a royal.

Captioning the images - which show the mum-of-one meeting pupils, chatting to teachers and participating in an assembly - she revealed that half a century ago in the nearby Ford Motor Company factory women went on strike in a fight for equal pay.

It read: “In the face of great pressure, they stood firm, and two years later the UK Parliament was forced to pass the Equal Pay Act, protecting and supporting working women ever since.”

The post also featured a quote from Meghan, who said: “Being in Dagenham is incredibly profound.

“Because as you can see with Geraldine and the other women who had the strength to really stand up for something that they knew needed to be done.

“This is the best example of no matter how small you might feel, how low you may feel on the ladder or the totem pole, no matter what colour you are, no matter what gender you are, you have a voice, and you certainly have the right to speak up for what is right.”

The post has already been ‘liked’ more than 100,000 times, with many royal fans leaving praise.

It comes after a video shared this morning gave an inside look at the visit.

Meghan, who wore a cream boucle jacket with black tailored trousers and a pair of heels, was seen being given a standing ovation by pupils after she gave a speech during an assembly.

The duchess said: “When we thought about what I wanted to do for International Women’s Day this year, for me it was incredibly important to be with the women of our future.

“And that is all of the young women here, as well as the young men who play a very large part in this.

“Specifically coming to your school made a lot of sense for me because of this social justice and the impact that it’s rooted in.”

Last night, the duke and duchess received a standing ovation at the Mountbatten Festival of Music.
