Meghan Markle's handled herself with 'grace, control and poise' during scrutiny

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, has faced a huge amount of scrutiny since becoming a member of the Royal Family.

But, according to a royal etiquette expert, she’s handled herself with ‘grace, control and poise’ throughout.

“When you feel insecure you have two choices,” etiquette expert Myka Meier tells Yahoo UK, as part of ‘The Royal Story’ series.

“You can either continue to feel insecure or you can change it. The best part about it is we instil confidence through etiquette. It saddens me to see the scrutiny that Meghan’s under, I don’t think it’s good etiquette, she’s handled herself with such grace and control and poise.

“I think these are all skills you can learn and I think we can learn from Meghan.”

Meirer’s referring to the huge amount of media attention the 38-year-old royal has faced since marrying Prince Harry in May 2018.

The Duchess spoke of the impact of living life - particularly while pregnant and as a new mother - in the spotlight during a recent ITV interview.

The former TV actress, who gave birth to son Archie in May 2019, said it’s been a struggle.

“Look, any woman especially when they are pregnant, you’re really vulnerable, and so that was made really challenging, and then when you have a newborn – you know…

“And especially as a woman, it’s a lot. So you add this on top of just trying to be a new mom [sic] or trying to be a newlywed it’s, well…

Speaking to ITV interviewer Tom Bradby, the Duchess continued:

“And, also thank you for asking, because not many people have asked if I’m OK. But it’s a very real thing to be going through behind the scenes.”

Bradby then asks the royal if she’s “not really OK, as in it’s really been a struggle?” to which Meghan replies: “Yes”.

Prince Harry’s done his best to support and protect Meghan and released an emotional statement during last month’s tour of South Africa, addressing the treatment of his wife by certain media outlets in the British press.

The statement, published on the pair’s official website, followed the revelation that the couple are suing the ‘Mail On Sunday’ for publishing a private letter that Meghan wrote to her father, Thomas Markle.
