The Duchess of Sussex has received an outpouring of support after an intimate tell-all documentary featuring her estranged father.

Thomas Markle spoke of his pain following his dramatic fallout with Meghan and her and Prince Harry’s move to break away from the royal family.

In the documentary, which aired on Channel 5 on Wednesday, Mr Markle said from his home in Mexico that he “missed his daughter” but added: “I don’t know who she is anymore”.

Many were quick to throw their support behind Meghan, questioning Mr Markle's decision to “trash his own daughter” and claiming he is “not to be trusted”.

One person condemned him for trying to “cash in” on the duchess, saying: “I would never watch the Thomas Markle interview.

“Any father who is willing to go on national TV to trash his own daughter is a piece of trash. He has sold his story to papers and is trying to cash in on his daughter.

“If he was my father I would never speak to him again.”

Another said they felt bad for both Meghan and Thomas, writing: “I don't hate Thomas Markle at all for doing this interview. I don't blame Meghan for not talking to him either. I feel bad for both. Life's too short for pointless tit for tat family feuds.”

But others were quick to question his thought process behind agreeing to the interview, with one person saying: “Thomas Markle really made deals with the paparazzi and is now trying to play victim in a tell all interview and doesn’t understand why Meghan has cut him off?”

Another added: “What doesn’t Thomas Markle get about why his daughter isn’t talking to him? He and Samantha Markle constantly sold stories and gave interviews one after the other .....and now he says she “owes” him - mate, how can you be surprised?! #markle”

One person said the interview made clear Mr Markle is “not to be trusted,” writing: “He doesn’t care about seeing his grandson or his daughter.

"He cares only about cashing in. If he would’ve zipped his lips after his first paid tell-all interview on GMB, he would’ve talked to them by now. But that interview made it clear, Thomas Markle is not to trusted. #Megxit”

The comments come as Oprah Winfrey said she backed Meghan and Harry’s exit from the royal family “1,000 percent”.

But, some said they supported Mr Markle for speaking out, with one person writing they “shed a tear of genuine compassion for him.”

Another said he had the right to sell his story, writing: “The man needed to and has the right to tell his story. Nothing wrong with that. He admitted to “not being a saint”. It just confirms how cold hearted and selfish Megan has been and still is.”

Meghan, Harry and their son Archie are in Canada where the are expected to spend most of their time after the Queen sanctioned their decision to step back as senior royals.
