Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have a new baby on the way
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, have shared the wonderful news that Meghan is pregnant – their one-year-old son Archie is set to become a big brother! A spokesperson for the couple confirmed the news earlier today and an intimate photograph of the couple, showing the Duchess's bump, was released to celebrate the announcement too.
Royal correspondent Omid Scobie (who co-authored a recent unofficial biography about Meghan and Harry, called Finding Freedom), tweeted the news by saying: "Baby news! 'We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother,' says a spokesperson for Harry and Meghan. 'The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.'"
Scobie also shared the joyful black and white image of the two, adding that it was taken by a long-time friend of the couple, Misan Harriman. "The photo was taken remotely by longtime friend of the couple, and photographer, Misan Harriman." Presumably it was taken in the back garden of their Montecito home.
Harriman also shared the photo on his social accounts, adding a caption saying how delighted he is for the couple too: "Meg, I was there at your wedding to witness this love story begin, and my friend, I am honoured to capture it grow. Congratulations to The Duke and Duchess of Sussex on this joyous news!"
The news is especially poignant for the couple as last November, Meghan penned a moving essay about experiencing a miscarriage – something that will no doubt have provided comfort to many other families who have sadly experienced a similar loss.
It's certainly set to be a busy year on the royal baby front, as the Duke and Duchess's announcement comes only a few days after Prince Harry's cousin, Princess Eugenie, welcomed her first child into the world – a son, with her husband Jack Brooksbank, whose name has currently not been revealed. Another of Harry's cousins, Zara Tindall, is also expecting a child, with her husband, Mike. The pair already have two daughters, Mia and Lena.
As yet, neither the Palace nor Prince William and Kate Middleton, or Harry's father, Prince Charles, have publicly commented on Meghan and Harry's pregnancy announcement.
