She may be getting a rough time at the moment, but ultimately the Duchess of Sussex will be loved by British women, former newspaper editor Eve Pollard has predicted.
Meghan may be doing things differently from other women in the Royal Family, but the fact she is backing causes important to women will see her weather the storm, Pollard said.
“I think that Meghan is going on a different path. I think that we don’t know yet what path that is,” the former Sunday Mirror and Sunday Express editor told Yahoo UK’s The Royal Box.
“Meghan herself, I would imagine, must have found it quite difficult to fit into this very large family, with very old traditions, and she and Prince Harry are doing things differently,” she said.
“Well, doing things differently means that you can get criticised and they have been.”
But that doesn’t mean the former Suits star won’t end up being a popular member of the Royal Family, Pollard predicted.
“The causes she espouses are all the causes that every woman would agree with,” she said.
“I think that in the end that will prove to be the thing that makes her stand out, the thing that separates her.”
“I think the fact that she’s American, I think the fact that she’s mixed race, is a great plus to the royal family.”
Meghan is simply ‘the new girl’, said Pollard, and things will eventually ‘quieten down’.
“She’s the new girl. There’ll be a new new girl along sometime and they’ll get a lot of attraction and attention.
“This always happens to the royal family - people are fascinated by the new glamorous entrants. It’ll quieten down eventually.”
