Meghan Markle praised for writing individual letters to school pupils

Meghan Markle has received praise on Twitter after sending individual thank you letters to a group of pupils who wrote to her.
Students from year 3 and year 4 at Woodlands Community Primary School in Birkenhead penned letters to the Duchess of Sussex to mark Black History Month, which falls in October.

The school’s official Twitter account shared an image of the pupils clutching their individual letters, together with a letter from Claudia Spens, a representative for the office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“The children were extremely surprised but delighted to receive [the letters],” a representative for the school told Yahoo UK.

The group of schoolchildren are pictured clutching their letters, some still in their envelopes and others opened up to show a typewritten note.
A couple of the pupils are also holding what appears to be a previously unseen picture of Duchess Meghan wearing her blue Veronica Beard dress – last worn during the Sussexes’ royal tour of southern Africa.
According to the letter, the children had met the duke and duchess during their visit to Birkenhead in January this year.

The tweet says the children were “excited” upon receiving personalised responses from the duchess.
The post has received a number of responses praising the duchess’ kind gesture, while others have also praised the teacher’s initiative in telling the children to write to the royal.

As a child, Duchess Meghan learnt the power of letter writing herself. Aged 11, she wrote to Procter & Gamble to ask them to change an advertisement she considered sexist – and her early activism was successful.
While it is unclear whether the typewritten letters has been personally signed, it is known the former actor is also known to be a skilled calligrapher – supporting her Hollywood career by teaching calligraphy and doing the wedding invitations for celebrities like Paula Patton and Robin Thicke, for their nuptials in 2005.
