From her environmental activism to her beliefs on vaccine equality and women's rights, it's no secret that Meghan Markle is an absolute powerhouse when it comes to improving the state of the world. Most recently, she's set her sights on ensuring working mums are getting the praise they deserve, particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic which saw women typically taking on the emotional and physical labour that comes with having a family.

In a statement, the Duchess of Sussex – who has two children, three-year-old Archie Harrison and 11-month-old Lilibet Diana – advocated for a national childcare policy in the US, saying: "Families everywhere, and especially working moms, are asked to shoulder so much."

The 40-year-old went on, "This has only been heightened by the pandemic, with increased caregiving responsibilities, rising prices and economic uncertainty."

"As it's been said many times, it takes a village to raise a child," the former actor added. "Today, we're sending a message that childcare isn't just a community imperative — it's a business imperative. Creating a stronger workforce starts with meeting the needs of families."

Her comments on the inequalities faced by mothers come just weeks after Meghan announced the release of her Archetypes podcast on Spotify, in which she will "investigate the labels that try to hold women back." In a teaser clip for the podcast, the Duchess also said she would "uncover the origin of these stereotypes" and that we'll get to listen in as she has "uncensored conversations with women who know all too well how these typecasts shape our narratives."

The teaser, which was released earlier this year, opens up with a series of soundbites referencing slut-shaming and other derogatory terms directed at women. We then hear Meghan's voice introducing us to what Archetypes is all about. "This is how we talk about women: the words that raise our girls, and how the media reflects women back to us," the ex-Suits actor says. "But where do these stereotypes come from? And how do they keep showing up and defining our lives?"

She continued: "I’m Meghan, and this is Archetypes: the podcast where we dissect, explore and subvert the labels that try to hold women back. I’ll have conversations with women who know all too well how these typecasts shape our narratives. And, I’ll talk to historians to understand how we even got here in the first place."

We can't wait to see what the Duchess does next!
