Update: Harry and Meghan's pregnancy announcement paid tribute to his late mother Princess Diana who would have been 60 this year. The Queen has also responded to the news.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting their second child, their spokesperson confirmed last night.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have recently left social media, but this black and white photo of Meghan with a visible bump reclining on Harry, in what looks to be the couple's LA garden, is circulating on Twitter after being released by their team.

Royal journalist Omid Scobie, who co-wrote the Meghan and Harry biography Finding Freedom, said 'the photo was taken remotely by longtime friend of the couple and photographer Misan Harriman'.

He also shared the couple's official statement in his accompanying tweet: 'We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother...The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child'.

But one thing we didn't spot overnight is that the Valentine's Day announcement holds a poignant link to Diana, because it was 37 years ago yesterday that the Princess of Wales announced she was pregnant with Harry.

The Queen and Prince Philip have this morning said they are 'delighted' to hear Harry and Meghan will become parents again later this year.

The lovely news comes after Meghan shared an honest essay, published in November in the New York Times, in which she detailed her experience of losing a baby to miscarriage in July last year. She spoke of the 'unbearable grief'.

The Duke and Duchess' son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor will be two in May.

The family relocated to Canada and then settled in LA, after stepping down as senior royals in January 2020.
