They are preparing for baby son Archie’s first Christmas - and now Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are spreading the festive cheer by highlighting important charitable causes.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex revealed to their 9.9m Instagram followers in a new post that they had been “inspired by the 12 days of Christmas” to follow 12 organisations that care for those in need “especially at this time of year".

Salvation Army, Centre Point, Shelter and Los Angeles Mission are among the dozen good causes the royal parents wanted to draw attention to.

Captioning a montage of images from nine of the charity’s accounts, they wrote: “With the festive holiday season upon us, it’s also a reminder to reflect on those in need – those who may feel lonely, hungry, homeless, or may be experiencing the holidays for the first time without loved ones.

”It’s an important time of year to help those around you who may be less fortunate, or who would appreciate even the smallest act of kindness.

”Continuing our monthly tradition of highlighting accounts that do good, and inspired by the ‘Twelve Days of Christmas’ - we have selected twelve organisations caring for those in need - especially at this time of year.”

The post has already received more than 115k ‘likes’ and over 1,900 comments.

Many fans were left convinced the post had been penned by Meghan, 38, herself - rather than a member of the couple’s social media team - due to use of the phrase “festive holiday season”.

Praising them for the idea, one person wrote: “You guys are doing a wonderful job well done.”

Another commented: “Such an amazing theme. Thank you for using your platform to bring attention to various important causes.”

A third shared: “It’s great to learn about the charities and what they represent.”

And a fourth added: “You two rock! The most thoughtful, intelligent, hardworking royals. Thanks for being a great example of true royalty and showing kindness and respect to others!!”

It comes as Meghan and Harry, 35, revealed earlier this year that they would only be following the Instagram accounts of causes they wanted to give a platform to.

They explained how these would change every month.

It is thought the duke and duchess spent their little boy’s first Thanksgiving in the US with grandmother Doria Ragland.

For Christmas, it is believed that the family-of-three will choose to remain in America or enjoy the festive period at their Windsor home of Frogmore Cottage.

Last month, it was reported they had told the Queen they would not be joining her and the rest of royal family at Sandringham.
