As the many millions of people who tuned into Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey will already know, security is a big issue for the couple (and royal family in general). During the candid conversation the Duke and Duchess discussed with Oprah how, after stepping down from their senior royal roles, they were told on "short notice" that their security would be revoked, despite the threat level against them not changing.

As Harry put it, "I never thought that I would have my security removed, because I was born into this position and I inherited the risk... that shocked me." He continued on to add that "their justification was a change in status, to which I pushed back and said, is there a change in threat or risk?"

Keeping all that in mind, it's worrying to see new reports that reveal police have been called to the Duke and Duchess's Montecito home nine times in as many months, with a particularly scary-sounding incident playing out over Christmas 2020. Vanity Fair say the County Sheriff's Office were contacted on both Christmas Eve and Boxing Day after a trespasser, later named as Nickolas Brooks, was spotted on the property.

It's believed that Brooks drove over 2,000 miles to reach the couple's home and was subsequently arrested and charged with one count of misdemeanour trespassing, after being caught the second time.

A Freedom of Information request by the PA news agency also found that officers were called to Meghan and Harry's home four times in July alone, with three of those incidents being logged as 'alarm activations' and one as being in response to a phone request.

The FOI submission also noted that police were called again in August with regards to a 'miscellaneous priority incident' and further alarm activations occurred in November 2020 and most recently, February 2021. Given that Meghan is currently pregnant with a daughter who is due to arrive in the summer, and the couple already have a one-year-old son, Archie, we can only imagine how stressful this all must be for them.

Here's hoping that any and all security issues they may have been experiencing are now well and truly ironed out.
