With every passing year there is a model who everyone wants to be, who typifies what it means to be cool at any given moment. Think Kate Moss, Freja Beha Erichsen, Daria Werbowy and other uncompromising women who maintain their elusiveness.

The latest addition to this brand of model is the Argentinian Mica Argañaraz who –with her shaggy fringe and strong jawline – just doesn't look like anyone else. She was scouted when she was 19 and shortly after made her modelling debut at Christopher Kane's spring/summer 2013 show. Then came the huge luxury campaigns: namely for Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent and Prada.

Her appeal is far-reaching and she has also been adopted a high-street favourite, most recently fronting a campaign with Mango. We talked to the model about her journey so far.

Was modelling your childhood dream? Did you ever consider other careers?

"I grew up in the countryside, so when I was a kid I didn't have any ideas of the fashion industry and modelling wasn't something that concerned me. First I was scouted in the street, but I was still in school. But then, I was living in Buenos Aires, studying cinema at university, and I needed to find a job, so I decided to give it a try and I just sent very raw Polaroids to an agency and they called me for a meeting."

How would you describe your style?

"Boyish. The secret is in the basics."

Which items of clothing could you not live without?

"Well I can't live without my typical outfit: a white T-shirt, suit jacket and black pants."

How do you keep your tomboyish curls looking so good?

"My curls are natural, I have had this haircut since I was 13. I usually use coconut oil to keep them healthy."

What is your New Year's resolution?

"To stop smoking."

I understand you're a part-time artist; what sort of art do you create?

"I've painted during all my entire life. During my youth, I stopped for a while but then I realised how much I missed it and how it makes me happy. It's like meditation: it takes you to the same state of mind."

As a big Bob Dylan fan, which is your favourite of his lyrics? "

"Those of 'Just Like a Woman'."

What appealed to you about working with Mango?

"I had worked with the team before, and also I really like the brand so this was a great opportunity for me."

Which key pieces will you be buying for spring/summer 2017?

"Some new bikinis to go to Ibiza, can't wait!"
