McDonald's has launched its first ever vegan burger in the UK and Ireland. The McPlant comes after three years of research and development from the company to create a plant based alternative for vegan customers.

The McPlant was developed along with US brand Beyond Meat, which produces plant-based meat substitutes, and includes a vegan cheese made with pea protein along with a brand new vegan sauce. It will be cooked separately to other non-vegan food on the menu with specific utensils, and also includes a vegan sesame bun, mustard, ketchup, pickles, onion, lettuce and sliced tomato.

The McPlant was first announced back in 2020, but was not yet available to buy. Well, now the time has finally come.

The burger will be available in 10 restaurants in Coventry from the 29th September and in 250 more locations as of 13th October with a view to rolling out the burger nationwide as of 2022.
