McDonald's to launch festive treasure hunt that offers new prizes every day
McDonald's is getting into the spirit of giving this Christmas by announcing a brand new game that will see shoppers win the likes of free food and merchandise.
Now that the fast-food giant's annual Monopoly game is over for another year, foodies might be feeling its loss. Enter 'Gift Drop', the latest competition to be offered by McDonald's - and it's officially about to begin.
Starting from tomorrow (November 20), the restaurant will be dropping 'hidden' gift tags that customers will need to find in order to win exclusive prizes. From billboards to food packaging, these tags can be searched for both online and in real life.

Running until December 19, the competition will offer new prizes and offers every day for the next four weeks. These can include everything from free menu items and MyMcDonald's points to Christmas jumpers and fries baubles for your tree this year.
To play 'Gift Drop', all you simply need to do is download the MyMcDonald's app - if you don't already have it. When looking for the hidden tags, look out for a black box with a yellow border that contains a red box in the middle.
To be in with the chance of winning any goodies, you need to enter the gift tag code into the app. From there, you will receive two food offers - a main food offer that will expire at 23:59 that same day, and a breakfast offer, which will expire at 10:59 the next day.
It is worth noting that, while the codes can be used by more than one customer, they are limited to one per day for everyone. However, to help out friends and family who can't find them, codes can be either Airdropped or shared via Bluetooth.
A maximum of 30 codes will be available per person through the entire game, and all prizes must be claimed by December 23. Once you have found your codes and entered them into the app, they cannot be used again by the same account.

The launch of the 'Gift Drop' competition comes just after McDonald's unveiled its Christmas 2024 advert that focused on the theme of gifting. Dubbed 'The Gift of McDonald's', the 60-second clip serves as a reminder to "everyone of the joy of a well-deserved break at McDonald’s amidst the busy holiday period."
Set to Benny Benassi’s, 'Satisfaction' with no spoken words, the campaign follows a couple who are driving back home through a lit-up Christmas village after a long day of gift shopping. Before heading home, they stop by a McDonald's drive-thru after a long day.
