McDonald's McRib returns after eight-year hiatus — here's how you can get one for free

The McRib is coming back to McDonald’s on Wednesday (MCD) — but if you want one for free, it’ll cost you some facial hair.

Having fallen off the fast-food radar for nearly a decade, The McRib — which is made of seasoned boneless pork, barbecue sauce, onions and pickles on a bun — makes its triumphant return to the Golden Arches on December 2. It had a limited return in October 2019, but has not been available nationwide since 2012.

And according to the fast food giant, patrons can get the barbecue cult favorite for free, just by shaving their quarantine beard.

The reason? Well apparently because “beards + McRib sauce don't mix” — and because McDonald’s has a worthy cause in mind.

“Beard or no beard, prepare for the McRib with a shave – or even a facial mask – because anyone can participate, from your brother to your mother, sister-in-law or cousin’s roommate,” McDonald's said in a news release on Monday.

As part of the “Shave 4 McRib Sweepstakes,” McDonald’s has partnered with No-Shave November, a nonprofit organization devoted to fundraising cancer awareness.

To enter, “post a picture of your cleanly-shaven or baby-smooth face on your public Twitter or public Instagram profile using #Shave4McRibSweepstakes and tag @mcdonalds,” the release added.

The first 10,000 entries will receive a code for a free McRib via Uber Eats (UBER) while supples last.

McRib purchases “will help support our donation to the charity’s cancer initiatives,” the company said.
