Presenter Matt Baker is a devoted family man. He recently moved to Durham with his wife and children to help run the family farm, a journey that is being documented on Channel 4 for a show called Our Farm in the Dales.
Viewers have been privy to some heart-warming moments, including one which left Matt close to tears.
The Countryfile star wanted to make his dad happy by restoring his old car, which had sat getting rusty in the garage for 20 years. Matt was filmed saying, “It’s been weighing heavily on my dad’s mind, and I couldn’t do anything about it.”
He took the car to a restoration garage and told them, “It would mean the world if it could be saved, but I’m not holding up much hope.” However, when Matt visited the garage at a later date, the mechanic turned the key and the engine purred into life, as Matt exclaimed, “There she is!”
Matt was visibly emotional as he said, "I tell you what, that takes me back. Even that engine. That has hit me in the heart that has. Oh my word, it's coming back! Everything's working. Dad is not going to believe it, and Mother is not going to believe it – truthfully I think she was hoping it would disappear!"
The 43-year-old just couldn't believe his eyes, saying, "Dad is going to be amazed. What's making me feel more emotional is knowing what this is going to mean to my dad. When we waved the car off at the top of the farm and I think he thought to himself, 'That ain't coming back' and he's beaten himself up for a long time about the condition that it's in. I think he'll be delighted to hear she's doing everything in her power to get back onto the road."
Our Farm in the Dales is showing on All Four.
