The latest Matrix film, The Matrix Resurrections, has finally landed in cinemas after months of patient waiting from fans. However, after just a matter of hours the film is already causing drama among viewers and critics. So, time to pick sides.
The film is the fourth instalment in the Matrix franchise and the first film for 18 years, since The Matrix Revolutions was released back in 2003. So, to say that people were looking forward to its release is somewhat of an understatement.
Set 60 years after Revolutions the film picks back up with Neo (Keanu Reeves) who is now living an ordinary life. That is, until a new version of Morpheus (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) offers him the red pill and reopens his mind to the Matrix and a new enemy.
Given that the whole franchise began a solid 22 years ago, and quickly became a hugely popular and influential part of pop culture, it's safe to say that fans have been very excited over this new instalment.
Which is where all the drama comes in. In the lead up to the film's release a number of fairly negative critic reviews emerged, with many of them unconvinced by the need for a fourth film let alone the film itself. However, once it had its theatrical release and viewers were allowed to see for themselves, many of them started clapping back at the critics saying how much the loved Resurrections.

Damn the critics! I really enjoyed #MatrixResurrections! Such a nice little bow on the story!
Yes, it’s “meta”, but I loved how it’s used to actually honor the trilogy. And it ends the story, there’s no need for another one.

I mean, when is there ever not drama over a new release?! Only thing to do is go see for ourselves.
