Former Team GB gold medallist long jumper Greg Rutherford has shared his super simple recipe for creating the perfect baguettes in no time at all.

Greg, who won gold on ‘Super Saturday’ at the London 2012 Olympics and bronze at the Rio Olympics in 2016, has delved into the world of cooking after winning Celebrity MasterChef. Since his retirement from athletics, Greg has appeared on a number of TV shows, including becoming Celebrity MasterChef champion in 2019.

In one of his recent social media posts, Greg revealed his take on an easy bread recipe, creating the perfect bake to try at the weekend, or even when you have a spare five minutes.

What’s even better is that the recipe only uses four ingredients which you may already have in your cupboard, and there’s no kneading involved. The Olympian claims that the recipe is so simple, you’ll never have to buy shop-bought bread again.

In an Instagram post, Greg said: “Here’s how you make homemade, delicious baguettes with only four ingredients.”

He wrote in the caption: “Easy bread recipe. AND NO NEED TO KNEAD. You only need 4 ingredients, 5 mins to prep and 25 mins in the oven. Once you’ve tried it you’ll never go back to store bread.”

Once baked, Greg recommended dipping it in balsamic vinegar and olive oil, or filling them with your favourite sandwich fillings. If baking bread scares you but you want to have a crack, this is what you’ll need for Greg’s recipe.

Baguettes

Ingredients

  • 480g bread flour

  • 8g cooking salt

  • 1.2g instant yeast

  • 375ml room temp water

Method

  1. Place the flour, salt and yeast in a mixing bowl and mix well. Then add water and combine until there’s no flour left in the bowl.

  2. Put clingfilm over the top and leave for ten to 12 hours on the side.

  3. Heavily flour the work surface and pour the dough onto it. Flour the top of the dough and cut in two, shape the dough into baguette shapes and place onto a baking tray lined with baking paper.

  4. Place the dough into a preheated oven set to 240℃ for 25 minutes. Take out, let it cool down and enjoy!
