Mary Poppins at the Prince Edward Theatre: First look at pictures of the West End musical

The first pictures have been released for Mary Poppins, which has returned to the West End.

The musical opens at the Prince Edward Theatre on November 13 in a joint production between Cameron Mackintosh and Disney Theatrical Productions.

Zizi Strallen, who recently starred in Strictly Ballroom and the Mary Poppins international tour, will step back into Mary’s shoes. Charlie Stemp, who has appeared in Hello Dolly on Broadway, will play Bert.

The cast also includes Joseph Millson as Mr Banks and Amy Griffiths as Winifred Banks. The children will be played by Adelaide Barham, Imogen Bourn, Charlotte Breen, Ellie Kit Jones and Nuala Peberdy, alternating the role of Jane, and Joseph Duffy, Samuel Newby, Gabriel Payne, Edward Walton and Fred Wilcox, alternating the role of Michael.

Richard Eyre and Matthew Bourne co-direct the show, which Bourne has also choreographed alongside Stephen Mear.

Mary Poppins has a score by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, and book by Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes.

The original stage production of Mary Poppins opened in the West End in December 2004 and ran for three years, winning two Olivier Awards and an Evening Standard Award.

Mary Poppins is booking until May 3 2020.
