Martin Short feared Selena Gomez would be a 'pop princess nightmare'

Martin Short has admitted that he feared Selena Gomez would be a "pop princess nightmare".

While speaking to People at Selena's Rare Impact Fund Benefit on Wednesday night, Martin confessed that he had worried that his Only Murders in the Building co-star would be a "nightmare" before they began filming.

"The first day we shot, I had never met Selena. Because of COVID, we'd only Zoomed," Martin told the outlet. "And I was driving to work and I thought, I wonder what Selena could be like? I mean, she could be a nightmare. She could be a pop princess nightmare."

However, Martin shared that he soon realised that the Single Soon hitmaker was anything but a nightmare.

"Right away - from the first second we started to the makeup room - it was, like, fabulous," the actor said, adding that she is "always on time, always knows her lines. So good, so talented, such a pro - it's fabulous".

Martin, 73, and Selena, 31, portray lead characters Oliver Putnam and Mabel Mora. They act alongside Steve Martin, who plays Charles-Haden Savage. The Hulu mystery series premiered in December and was recently renewed for its fourth season.

Selena's Rare Impact fund is raising money to expand access to mental health services and education for young people globally.
