If, like us, you’re literally counting down the minutes until tonight’s Line of Duty series finale, then you’ve probably been keeping up with (aka obsessing over) all the fan theories about what’s going to happen.

For the past few weeks, we’ve all been trying to figure out who the mysterious ‘H’ is. And now, ahead of tonight’s episode, the show’s star Martin Compston has waded in on things.

Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, Martin, who plays AC-12’s Steve Arnott, was questioned about one theory, which stemmed from a quote in the show. Fans thought they’d heard Jimmy Lakewell say “look beyond the race claim to find H”.

This led some viewers to suspect that by removing the letters ‘race claim’ out of Carmicheal, you’re left with ‘H’. Still following?

But, in his interview, Martin completely quashed that idea. “Do you know what I love about that one?” he said, “It’s so spot on, but that line never got said.”

“[It] blew my mind,” he went on to add, explaining how the show’s creator, Jed Mercucio, confirmed the line never happened.

On the topic of theories, Martin also revealed that his Instagram DMs are flooded with fans sharing their ideas, along with their love for him. “The Instagram DMs get a bit out of hand,” he said, “a lot of stuff I wish I hadn’t seen. I need to stop looking at them. A lot of marriage proposals and a lot of proposals of other stuff.”

So, while it seems we’re back to square one when it comes to working out who ‘H’ actually is, at least we haven’t got long to wait – the much-anticipated finale is on BBC1 tonight at 9pm.
