We all know Martha Stewart as a maven of all things cooking, baking, decorating, and gardening, but long ago, she ventured into a completely different career path. In a recent interview with People magazine, Martha Stewart revealed that she was once a stockbroker for nearly a decade, well before her successful business empire was created. The television personality shared, “The most important of my early jobs was being a stockbroker, and I lasted in that business for about eight years, working in a firm of all men,” she told the outlet. Clearly, Stewart’s career trajectory didn’t go as planned, but it still led her in the right direction.

Some other anecdotes mentioned in this exclusive interview include Stewart’s time as a model in her teenage years. "My neighbor, a beautiful ballerina, was modeling for Stuart Models, and she had a contract. Her parents said to me, 'Martha, you’re so pretty. You should be modeling also.' So I did. I signed with Ford Models and was immediately signed up for TV commercials. I was the all-American girl,” says Stewart. Oh and that thirst trap she posted on Instagram over the summer? She actually didn't mean to take that photo, but she posted it anyway. #Goals.

Of course, we now know Martha Stewart as a vastly successful businesswoman, but she was met with opposition throughout her career. After her company Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia went public in 1999, Stewart became the first self-made female billionaire. And yet, she says that even her own lawyers “were negative about the possibility of success.” She adds, “I think I helped so many other women believe in their own ideas and their own business plans and their own paths to glory. Many other women have built amazing companies and done very well.”

Evidently, Martha Stewart has found success in a myriad of ways—as a stockbroker, model, and a businesswoman—and we have no doubt there's more to come from this powerhouse.
