Martha Stewart, a 2023 SI Swimsuit cover star, is known for being honestly sassy. The 82-year-old lifestyle guru, who is founder of the Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia empire, has a special message for people who insist on “dressing for one’s age.”
“Dressing for whose age?” the mom of one and grandmother of two immediately clapped at Page Six when the publication asked for her thoughts on appropriate dressing during the Fashion Group International Night of Stars gala in New York City. “I don’t think about age. I think people are more and more and more [fabulous] than they’ve ever been in their senior years, and I applaud every one of them. I’ve dressed the same since I was 17. If you look at my pictures on my Instagram, I look pretty much the same.”
The best-selling author donned a floor-length silver three-piece set, including flowy pants, a subtle sweetheart-neck top and a matching tweed blazer for the Oct. 17 event.
Stewart knows that if your style is timeless, there’s no reason it should shift with age. The New Jersey native wears what she wants, when she wants, and can’t be told otherwise. She truly believes age is just a number, even when it comes to romantic and platonic relationships.
“I have friends who are 90. I have friends who are 20. That is a very, very good way to look at life because age is not the determining factor in terms of friendship, or in terms of success. But [rather] what people do, how people think, how people are—that’s what’s important,” she told SI Swimsuit while on location in the Dominican Republic. “Legacy is what you’re doing right now, tomorrow, next week, the week after. Keep it going for as long as you can because it might be better than anything you’ve done before.”
