Married At First Sight UK is getting a makeover to be more like the Australian version, with over 20 episodes. If you spent a large amount of early-2021 watching the Australian version of Married At First Sight (guilty), you're going to be thrilled to hear about the revamp the UK version is getting later this year. Here's what you need to know.
When will Married At First Sight UK be released?
After months of speculation, we finally have a release date! The new series will drop at the end of August, to fill any Love Island shaped hole you might have in your life. Announcing the news on social media, the official Instagram wrote, "🚨 Dust off your wedding hats because you’ve been invited to the weddings of the year! 🚨#MAFSUK starts Monday 30th August 💒"
What will be different about Married At First Sight UK this year?
Channel 4 announced the series ~which will be moving to E4~ is getting a major makeover, and will be taking inspiration from the drama-filled Australian version.
"Over 20 episodes, this new version of Married At First Sight UK takes inspiration from the hugely successful Australian version that gripped British viewers earlier this year," a press release explained. The new UK series will be a bigger, more dramatic take on the format, following a fresh batch of singles as they search for love and a happy-ever-after with complete strangers."
Future series also won't see the couples legally tie the knot. Rather than legal marriages, the couples will make a lifelong commitment to one another at a fancy ceremony which is overseen by a wedding celebrant, just as they do in the Australian version. Everything else - from the guests to the bridal gowns - will still be the same.
Once the ceremony is over, the couple will enjoy a luxury honeymoon before returning to the UK where they'll move into a shared house with each other and all the other couples. Fans will get a glimpse at their relationships at the weekly dinner parties, where they'll also be put under the microscope by fellow brides and grooms - and of course by the experts at the weekly commitment ceremonies.
Who will star in the next series of MAFS UK?
The series features relationship experts Paul C. Brunson, Melanie Schilling and Sex and Relationship expert Charlene Douglas, as well as a whole new host of contestants.
Channel 4’s Commissioning Editor of Factual Entertainment Lee McMurray said in a statement: "I’m thrilled to be refreshing one of the portfolio’s most popular brands for E4, bringing extra scale and ambition to what is already one of the most audacious and provocative experiments on television, and delivering what we hope will be the most exciting series yet."
