  • Married At First Sight UK is getting a dramatic makeover when it returns later this year.

  • Love the Australian version? Then you'll love this.

If you've been spending most of lockdown marathon-watching the Australian version of Married At First Sight (guilty), you're going to be thrilled to hear about the revamp the UK version is getting later this year.

Channel 4 announced the series ~which will be moving to E4~ is getting a major makeover, and will be taking inspiration from the drama-filled Australian version. Currently, a team of experts and matchmakers, with the help of science, pair up two complete strangers who meet for the very first time on their wedding day.

While that will still be the case, future series won't see the couples legally tie the knot. Rather than legal marriages, the couples will make a lifelong commitment to one another at a fancy ceremony which is overseen by a wedding celebrant, just as they do in the Australian version. Everything else - from the guests to the bridal gowns - will still be the same.

Once the ceremony is over, the couple will enjoy a luxury honeymoon before returning to the UK where they'll move into a shared house with each other and all the other couples. Fans will get a glimpse at their relationships at the weekly dinner parties, where they'll also be put under the microscope by fellow brides and grooms - and of course by the experts at the weekly commitment ceremonies.

The series finale will end with a “glossy, high-stakes” vow renewal, with the couples deciding if they want to recommit to their partner or go their separate ways.

Channel 4’s Commissioning Editor of Factual Entertainment Lee McMurray said in a statement: “I’m thrilled to be refreshing one of the portfolio’s most popular brands for E4, bringing extra scale and ambition to what is already one of the most audacious and provocative experiments on television, and delivering what we hope will be the most exciting series yet.”

Sound good? Bring on the next season of Married At First Sight UK.
