Thank GOD for Married At First Sight Australia. The series, which is on All4 and airing on E4, has been the dramatic distraction we've needed over the last few weeks, while we try to occupy ourselves in lockdown.

*Spoilers* The storylines are wild, the contestants (are they contestants?) are incredible, and the twists and turns seem to surprise us every time. But, without a doubt, one of the most absurd moments of all is the affair between Sam Ball and Ines Basic.

At the beginning of the experiment, the duo are married to other people. Sam is paired by the experts to Elizabeth Sobinoff, while Ines marries Bronson Norrish, and after both find themselves unhappy in their pairings, they decide to hook up secretly.

Seriously, it's WILD.

Only, er, 28-year-old Sam has now taken to Instagram Stories to insist all actually isn't as it seems, adding that producers were egging the affair on. "Thank you to all you guys in the UK enjoying the show... I’m about to ruin it for you," he told followers.

"[The producers] pulled me into a dark room, a black room, and asked me to do the Ines thing. They set that up. They made Ines DM me on the phone, that was all staged.

"I throw her on the bed on that date night, not even five seconds later, the producers come in and de-mic you. I didn’t sleep with Ines that night, that didn’t happen. I didn’t sleep with anyone on the show."

Eek. Could this be true? Or did the pair have an undeniable connection? Either way, it makes great TV.

We have reached out to Channel 4 and Nine Productions for a statement.
