It may have been one of the coldest nights in BAFTA history, but even the winter snow couldn't put some of the most fashion-forward stars off.

While the likes of Anne Hathaway, Amy Adams and Sarah Jessica Parker played it safe in all-black, it was left to Marion Cotillard and Jessica Chastain to provide a much needed colour-pop injection.

Despite her Dior dress revealing an interior panel that reminded us of Jennifer Lawrence's wardrobe malfunction at the SAG Awards, Marion wowed us with her choice of canary-yellow at the BAFTAs.

In a nod to one of the biggest trends of the season, the Rust and Bone actress blew her A-list competition out of the water in the fashion stakes - showcasing the bandeau creation with side peplum.

With her insider structure revealing a flash of thigh - a move we're not sure is a wardrobe malfunction or a risque trend - the French actress teamed her look with a flash of red lipstick and diamond jewellery.

Zero Dark Thirty star Jessica Chastain was another star brightening up tonight's red carpet, stepping out in a blue satin Roland Mouret gown.

Unlike her peers, Jessica made light of the dismal weather - laughing to the cameras as the heavens unleashed yet another gale.

The star's choice of hue worked perfectly with her trademark red locks, with her choice of pillarbox-red lipstick complementing the gown, which featured a flattering asymmetric neckline.

Elsewhere, Laura Bailey proved a red choice isn't always a faux pas on a red carpet, as she stepped out in a startling number by Roksanda Illincic, teaming her look with smokey eye make up and emerald jewels.

Tonight's BAFTA red carpet saw the majority of the A-listers opt for a twist on classic black, as they battled the elements before heading into the ceremony at the Royal Opera House.

That wasn't to say it was a plain red carpet though, with the likes of Anne Hathaway adding a metallic twist thanks to the detailing on her Burberry gown, and Sarah Jessica Parker opting for an Elie Saab jumpsuit.
