Maria Grazia Chiuri will receive Swarovski's Positive Change accolade at the 2017 Fashion Awards on Monday 4 December.

The honour is bestowed on 'individuals who have made a positive impact on society, the environment or both, and forms part of Swarovski's efforts to promote a more sustainable future'. Last year. it was given to the late Italian Vogue editor, Franca Sozzani.

'The feminist movement that has been mine for the longest time has finally struck a resonant chord in society, and this recognition sends a powerful message to all women battling on a daily basis,' said Chiuri, who joined Dior as the brand's first female creative director in 2016.

Her work is characterised by female empowerment, with feminism taking a primary position in all of her collections. Her 'We should all be feminists' T-shirt, a slogan taken from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's essay of the same name, became a cult item earlier this year, sparkling a slew of similar slogan styles. Last season, she introduced the 'Why Have There Been No Great Women Artists?' T-shirt, inspired by Linda Nochlin's essay. Her work is both politically aware and feminine.

'As Christian Dior's first female creative director, Maria Grazia has combined her own longstanding commitment to female empowerment with true creative magic, to bring today's most vital conversations to fashion's front row,' Nadja Swarovski, member of the Swarovski executive board.
