Man Utd outcast ‘let down’ by Solskajer told to pursue transfer to former club – ‘I feel sorry for him’

Man Utd midfielder Donny van de Beek was ‘let down’ by Ole Gunner Solskjaer while the former head coach was in charge, according to Paul Parker.

The 26-year-old made a name for himself while we worked under Erik ten Hag in the Eredivisie with Ajax.

His form for Ajax earned him a £40m move to Man Utd towards the end of the summer transfer window in 2020.

Van de Beek’s career at Man Utd has not got going as he has been unable to establish himself as a regular under Solskjaer or Ten Hag.

The Dutchman had a spell on loan at Everton last season and he has barely featured for the Red Devils this term. He has missed much of the campaign as a result of a serious knee injury as he has been restricted to just ten appearances overall.

The centre-back is under contract until 2025 but he could leave Man Utd during this summer’s transfer window. Ten Hag is expected to overhaul his squad before next season and Van de Beek is one player who may move elsewhere.

Parker has argued that Van de Beek has “never let the club down” and he thinks he was “let down by Solskjaer”.

“We can’t use any negative words about Donny van de Beek. He never let the club down but he has never really gotten the opportunity. He was let down by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in my opinion,” Parker told Soccernews.

“He arrived at the wrong time at Manchester United. He needed a crowd and he needed to be embraced but obviously, that was impossible due to Covid.

“Coming from overseas is tough and he never played regularly. He was never a true member of the squad and maybe he never felt like a true Manchester United player.

“I feel really sorry for him. Can it ever work out at Man United? I don’t think so even though the manager knows him very well. I don’t think there is a chance for him at Man Utd.”

Parker also “really hopes” Van de Beek can secure himself a move back to Ajax as he was “amazing there”.

“Can he get the opportunity to get back to Ajax? I really hope he can because he was absolutely amazing there,” Parker added.

“I hope he will get the opportunity to enjoy football again. This is also about enjoying his life and he can´t be enjoying his life in Manchester right now, even though it is a lovely place to be if things go right for you.”
